Welcome!

Owing is equal to Giving. ”

Tired of feeling disconnected? Tired of just talking about problems? Want to work as part of a group and really connect with a diverse group of people?

Join the Kula Project!

Berlin is a city that is very international. It has been recently said that in Berlin, “multiculturalism has failed.” How can people in Berlin interact outside of these fragmented communities? How can we break the boundaries of artist/non-artist, foreigner/German, outsider and insider, poor/rich? We want to include in this process amoung other people, someone who grew up in East Germany to a third generation Turkish-German, to the international resident who makes Berlin their temporary home.

What is Kula Project?

The project “Kula” is an artistic and social experiment. We are an open group for individuals (artists, doctors, students, teachers, etc.) wanting to share, and collaborate participate in the process of this project. We will meet to together to discuss and shape this project with the aims of bringing discussion to an active result using found materials in everyday life.

The name of Kula comes from a ceremonial exchange system handed down in the islanders of Papua New Guinea. IThe value of these objects comes from their exchange rather than the objects themselves.

KIR (Kula Instrument Room) which is an office/instrument/ unconventional space where we have will have our first discussions for how the aims of Kula can be achieved in Berlin.

We Want Your Help! Be a Part of the Project!

We welcome everyone who wants to participate (artists, non-artists). We want to collectively create a project with your input! What do you think this project should look like? How can we engage with our community to use this idea of Kula?

What is KIR

What is KIR?
KIR (Kula Instrument Room) which is an office/instrument/ unconventional space where our first discussions for how the aims of Kula can be achieved in Berlin.  Space influences how we behave. In this project we want to actively define our space (by talking, redesigning, using, occupying,)  rather than letting the space determine how we behave. For this reason, we will meet in various public and private locations (eg. parks, streets, u-bahn stations, markets, studio, shopping malls, homes).

Objectives

Objectives:

To gather the people who have a common interest to question the notion of the ‘found material’, invite the participant to analyse from the social, economical, political and cultural aspect of construction and the fabrication process in relation to the found material and it context.

  1. Share knowledge and skills.
  2. The process of sharing and cooperation becomes the work itself.
  3. To put these discussions into action in a public space.
  4. Encourage people to think and act differently, from conventional ways of thinking.
  5. To think of objects outside of a capitalistic system.
  6. To create and imagine an alternative mode of life.
  7. Encourage and stimulate people to take action.
  8. Expand the idea of an individualistic artistic practice to a communal act.
  9. Connect people of different nationalities, gender, race and class.
  10. Reach out to people who otherwise might not have contact with the art community.
  11. Use public space and create art which takes place out of conventional art spaces.
